Pre-prosthetic Orthodontics

Pre-prosthetic orthodontics refers to the specialized orthodontic treatment performed in preparation for prosthetic rehabilitation, such as dental implants, bridges, veneers or dentures.

The primary goal of this treatment is to optimize the position of the teeth and surrounding structures to ensure ideal function, aesthetics, and long-term stability of the planned prosthetic work. By aligning teeth, correcting bite discrepancies, or creating sufficient space for prosthetic components, orthodontic intervention plays a crucial role in achieving a successful restorative outcome.

This interdisciplinary approach often involves close collaboration between the orthodontist, prosthodontist, and general dentist. Common indications for pre-prosthetic orthodontics include closing or opening spaces for missing teeth, uprighting abnormally tilted teeth, improving the vertical dimension of occlusion, and correcting deep or open bites. With careful planning and execution, pre-prosthetic orthodontics enhances not only the mechanical success of restorations but also the patient’s overall oral health and quality of life.
